Why create probe groups

A probe group is a collection of probes associated by a set of logical criteria, and serves as a required building block for a microarray design. A single microarray design can contain probes for thousands of different targets, so placing these probes into logical groups simplifies the data sets, and subsequently the process of creating a microarray design.
